One word? When seven would do…

A little bit of empathy :-)

For just how bloody cold that gel stuff is when it’s smeared all over your belly for those ultra sounds 🙂 Yep, he came out and said that he understood now why I winced a bit when they squeezed it all over me – also the 15 minute wait to be called was bad enough for him without the full to bursting bladder that I have been sitting with so in all I think it was a good experience for him 🙂 And he didn’t even go there with the fact getting his bits out infront of an audience made him more than a little uncomfortable….

So the good news is that he is fine. No cancer, no suspicious lumps or tumours simply a very common side effect of the snip, which the doc assured him will continue improving over time as it was only 8 months or so ago he had it done. It would appear that it is quite common, but is also quite ‘glossed over’ when snips are being discussed at planning stage. Although to his credit he still said he would have had it done, even knowing about this as it was the better option when all possible permanent birth control methods were discussed after Tarly was born. So huge sighs of relief, glad its been done before Christmas and a bit of a bugger having read up on our life insurance which covers serious illness that our mortgage is not about to paid off after all 😉

The rest of today was a bit of a blur really, we both admitted to having been more focused on the scan than either of us had let on – even to ourselves. First thing he went off to work while I took the kids to the post office to collect a parcel which hadn’t been delivered yesterday cos we were out (thank you Mrs Bowlzer 🙂 Secret Santa lives at your postcode does he 😉 xxx), I also did that typical thing of going into Woolies at the last minute and picking up a couple of last minute impulse buy pressies for Ady which I didn’t really need to do, but made me feel more festive 🙂

Home again and Julie and the twins came over for lunch. Davies was totally overexcited and ran around shrieking for most of their visit – in the end I sent him to sit on the steps while I calmed down after catching him encouraging the others to squirt the juice from mandarin segments at each other 🙁 Scarlett & Jack spent ages emptying all the books off the bookshelf, then while Julie and I were tidying them up they went into the playroom and emptied literally every puzzle box out into a big pile 🙁 That did need tidying up straight away before any pieces got lost so I spent nearly 1/2 an hour sorting them out and putting them away again up high. Why is it you only need to introduce one extra child into an environment for total havoc to be caused? My two would never dream of doing that on their own, and neither would Jack and Maisie, but the instant they all get together they egg each other on like lads on a stag night to down pints in one and have ‘jushst one more for the road’.

And then, to coin a phrase, we had lunch 🙂

Ady arrived shortly afterwards when we had settled the kids down infront of a Brum video. When Davies was about 18 months old he was seriously into Brum, we’ve got all the videos, had various Brum related toys and puzzles and a couple of items of clothing. Scarlett was into it to a lesser degree at around the same age. Jack did a Brum puzzle when they were here last week and has been Brum spotting ever since. So that captivated them all for half an hour and made them calm down a bit too while we chatted about Christmas Day arrangements. Julie left and Dad arrived to mind the kids while we went off to the hospital.

Hassle parking and then a wait in the scan room anyway meant we were gone for about an hour but all seemed peaceful and okay when we got back. Davies was dressed as Jack and Dad was being the Giant and ‘Fee, Fye, Fo, Fumming’ all over the place while Davies dressed in the top and hat from his Peter Pan outfit was attacking him with the foam sword. A scene I would have shuddered at a while ago and one which still didn’t exactly warm my heart, but I guess a totally normal and acceptable game for a 4yo boy and his Grandad…

Mum arrived too and despite huge hints about inviting them for dinner we didn’t so they have gone off home. We are spending all day and evening with them tomorrow and Christmas Day and both wanted a bit of an easy and early night tonight – we are going out for breakfast tomorrow and I don’t think anyone will be sleeping past about 5am on Saturday so a late night tonight would be a bad idea…

Thanks again for all your thoughts, well wishes and reassurances over the last couple of weeks about Ady. It has really helped 🙂

  2. Oh, I am glad 🙂 Now you can relax and enjoy yourself. Will try very hard not to say at Melrose: “oh and you must be Ady. So nice to meet you, I’ve heard so much about you and your bits” 😉 (mutters to self, don’t mention the bits, don’t mention the bits)

  6. I’ve been thinking about you all day. Kisses and hugs all round and I am so happy and relieved that it is nothing more than it is. (Don’t tell Steve it was part of the snip or he will never consent to have it done LOL) Secret Santa was forced to put ‘a’ postcode or the post office wouldn’t have sent it so he just put mine!!!
