11. Birthday on the road 🙂
This year was always going to be a different type of celebration as you woke up on your birthday in a campervan, in the middle of a year long travelling adventure.
As always though you were specific about your plans for the day and how you wanted to spend it. First on the list was location – always easier when your home has wheels! Early in the year you had requested being at Rosemarkie campsite for your birthday, which tied in nicely with our being in Scotland at that time. Two sets of friends were only too happy to come and join us for the week which meant despite having a bit of a drought in time with friends generally this year, your actual birthday was spent in excellent company.
You were equally specific about the food provision for the day – cinnamon rolls for breakfast and pizza for dinner – both home made of course. This meant dough making both the night before and the afternoon of your birthday and a heavy emphasis on using the little oven in the campervan – it did mean the van was nice and warm that night!
Your present requests had been a specific Lego set – Pirates of the Caribbean, your current favourite film, and a stunt kite. Much subterfuge and assistance from friends helped with smuggling these into our tiny living space. I also managed to decorate the van and awning with banners and balloons when you finally fell asleep the night before.

Friends gave you more lego, fishing tackle and family sent you cash which you wisely invested in yet more lego along with birthday cards. A newly made friend at our previous WWOOF host generously gave you cash, a DS game and a treasured rock.
The day was spent on the beach with friends, dolphin watching, flying your new kite, fishing and lying flat on your back on the sandy under the stars gazing up at the night sky with me and several friends as the night grew dark and we sat round a campfire singing and snuggled up on blankets with some of your very best friends.

It’s been an amazing year, filled with new experiences and memory making, love and laughter. Our little family of four have had so many wonderful times this year and next year is already shaping up to be just as full of adventures and new challenges. I hope 11 is yet another amazing age for you, I don’t doubt for a minute it will be.
