Double figures.
I remember really looking forward to my own tenth birthday and certainly this has been one you have been counting the days to for weeks. You were quite specific in what you wanted to do on the day and we followed it to the letter :).
Your main present was a Campcraft Sleepout weekend at the Sustainability Centre – one of our favourite places to be. We’d planned it months ago and you’d chosen me as the parent to accompany you. We had a fantastic weekend, I love that I you choose me to share so many things with you and I get so many windows on your life still.

We then had a holiday with the rest of the family, various friends and cousins with the now rather traditional cake in a field 🙂

Your birthday gifts were X box and DS games, various survival bits (rucksack, camping cooking stuff, torch and other tools) from us, huge quantities of Lego from your grandparents and uncle and other survival type gifts from other family and friends. I love that you have such obvious passions and interests, that people know exactly who YOU are and what to get you rather than generic 10 year old boy stuff.
Your cake was a repeat of last year’s giant chocolate eclair, except of course as your age was double figures it meant double cake!

We went out for your favourite meal of steak to your favourite restaurant with your favourite people.

And then I did my usual soppy goodnight speech to you at bedtime telling you how amazing you are, how much I love being your mother and what joy you bring me, ending with ‘these have been the best ten years of my life’.
You looked at me, smiled and said ‘they’ve been the best ten years of mine too!’
And that about sums you up, loving, sensitive, incredibly perceptive and with a killer sense of humour!
Your first decade has been amazing – may there be many, many more amazing decades ahead xxx
