I think Scarlett is precisely the teenager I always imagined she would be. She is capable, confident, strong and sure. Helpful, kind, intuitive and funny. She has very rare strops and they are pretty much always linked to her periods when I seem to be able to do nothing right for a day or two. I veer between loving acceptance and having enough and snapping at her. A raised voice from me will always have Scarlett back down in tears. Thankfully neither of us find ourselves in that situation often.
Scarlett is still not reading. This bothers Ady. It does not bother me, sometimes I wonder if it should but she is perfectly capable of getting by so I don’t know why I worry. She is still at that stage of being part little girl despite physical appearance (taller than me, the body of a woman rather than a girl) and carries a soft toy with her, still plays and probably wants more of my attention than she actually gets.
Animals remain the common interest, her art is very good indeed and she has a good creative eye. I think she was overshadowed by Davies in this for many years without any of us, possibly even Scarlett herself, realising but she now has her own style and regularly paints, draws and creates.
Scarlett is a very content person, always has been. Sunny of nature and positive, she is always up for adventure and tends not to worry or dwell on things. I am very aware that our rather unusual living conditions (caravan, remote island, only 30 other people here etc) mean the sort of things we tackle and talk about are very different to what we might be doing / talking /dealing with in a different life. I think Scarlett has probably gained the most of all four of us from this and really hope it sets her up for what happens next in her life. I am awaiting the big chance which I am sure will come at some point in the next couple of years but for now she remains a delight.
