Shared something with Ali today I don’t believe I’ve ever told anyone else, so in the interests of keeping all online crossed into real life friends in the same loop at the same level…
You know that bit in the Spiderman theme tune where it goes:
Spiderman, Spiderman, does whatever a spider can
Well when I was a kid I used to think it meant does whatever a spider can as it does the best he can manage, tries hard, is aware of his limitations as a spider but gives it his best effort. Rather than what it actually means, and I only realised when Ady was explaining it to Davies about a year ago which is of course that Spiderman is graced with all the fantastical skills and abilities of a real life spider such as shooting out web silk, climbing vertical building faces and erm, eating flies (which would of course result in Spiderman wriggling and wriggling and wriggling inside of you!) etc. Very bizarrely I’ve just been checking posts from this time last year to link back to a day out we had last June and found a post with the same name showing the picture of Davies getting his spiderman suit – ooh spooky!
Anyway… this morning was a frenzy of domestic stuff like changing bed linen, getting all remaining washing done, putting stuff away, digging out the holdall ready to pack, washing towels to take, rummaging around finding Ady’s shorts, everyone’s swimming stuff and getting the children to try on last years sunsuits to check they still fit. I rang Africa Alive to formally make a booking for next week and sort out educational sessions, printed off databases of stuff for next week and the words for the song for Caberet Night. 🙂
The children played with beads (Tarly) and geomags (Davies). There was something of a hullaballoo about putting them away which is probably best left unblogged (we’ve made up since, no point in dwelling!) and we dashed off to Tesco for some last minute bits and pieces, cat food and litter to leave here and some wine for tonight and to fill my car up with petrol too. The children were both really well behaved in there and we had an interesting conversation about evolution vs creation, who gave birth to the first people (Davies shocked me by asking about that about 18 months ago but clearly doesn’t remember it) and whether we could evolve back into apes again, who Adam and Eve were / might have been and moved onto the moon, sun and stars. All very deep stuff ;-).
Home again and Ali and Freya arrived for lunch – including more compulsory eating of the strawberries then the children largely disappeared off to play. They came in for various things like assistance doing up dressing up outfits or in the case of D & S for cadging strawberries and cream off me (I made them sing for them 🙂 D tried to get away with nursery rhymes but I was having none of it and he managed something from Grease and the Oompa Lumpa song as well as a made up creation of his own which largely consisted of naming me, Ady and Scarlett and saying how much he loved us 🙂 S sang Goodbye Blackberry Way.)
Ali and I managed chats on various topics and we made a prototype for my kitemaking activity for next week which we took in the garden to have a quick go at flying. It was very, very still today anyway but I did a quick circuit of the front garden much to Ali’s amusement trailing my paper and carrier bag kite behind me. 😆
Ali and Freya left, I fed the children while they watched Grease at Davies’ request and Ady came home. We put them to bed and I got all the clothes and stuff packed up ready to go on Saturday. Tomorrow night we just need to try and get everything in the car but it’s all piled up ready to go at least. If we do run out of room it will be the portapotty which is first out but hopefully Ady can do some clever packing and get everything in.
Tomorrow we’re off to the South Of England show where we had a lovely time last year with my Mum which we’re looking forward to. So I really should go to bed and get some sleep ready for an early start tomorrow and my penultimate night in a real bed for a week too!
Have a lovely week Nic 🙂
Look forward to the jumbo-blog about it all when you return!
I shall expect text updates on all salient matters 😉
Me too! In fact if there’s an internet cafe within a 10 mile radius I expect some blogging …!!
