Work, declutter, wedding video

I worked this morning. Despite being up in plenty of time to sit and have some tea and toast before heading off thanks to the big clock being about 5 minutes slow I was late for work 😳

I had a nice morning, did some more of my ECDL, spent some time chatting to James who said he thinks about me often while at uni and how much I’d love his course (politics and philosophy) and he’s right; it would have been the very course I’d have I’d have picked way back when and I’d have adored debating with other passionate, word-at-their-feet 18 year olds about The State, Liberty, Democracy… and somewhere off in an alternate universe I didn’t get involved with alcohol and a Very Unsuitable Sometimes Boyfriend at 18, passed my A levels and wanted to go to uni and do that. Wonder what became of that version of me….

Back at home they had been mostly chopping firewood 🙂

I arrived home at lunchtime. Davies is still suffering with anxiety but is at least now able to be self deprecating about it, which is probably the only way anxiety can possibly work in this household. So when I asked if he’d been worried about me he was able to snigger and answer ‘only a tiny bit’. One of the jobs to do on our list is replace our oven. My parents bought it for us, along with a washer dryer when we got married so it is 11 years old. The washer dryer has long since been replaced (about twice I think) and the oven really is old and tired and ready to be pensioned off. We don’t technically need to leave an oven here to rent the house but it’s one of the staples I am happy to supply as we really need to replace it anyway. Ady had found a reconditioned appliance shop so we headed over there to look at what they had on offer. The bloke would do us some money off in exchange for our old cooker and the faulty washing machine we have in the garage and he has a fitter who could meet him at our house when he delivers the new cooker to disconnect the old one and install the new one. He had a really nice oven there which would go really well in our kitchen and I would get at least the four months worth of enjoying baking in even if we never live in this house again but at £175 we need to investigate cheaper second hand options really.

Back at home we decided to tackle our bedroom. The chest of drawers are now empty, we’ll chop them up for firewood tomorrow. Ady has culled his video collection down to a load to box up for the loft, some to let go and a few to watch before we leave and then stash in the loft. We have a pile of clothes worth keeping but not likely to be worn next year to put into vacuum bags for storing, several suits a a ‘good wool’ coat each, my wedding dress and a couple of nice evening dresses to put in a wardrobe at my parents to keep, capsule wardrobes each for work for the next 4 months and our bare bones WWOOFing wardrobes which leaves us with a very empty wardrobe, several sacks for the clothes bank and 3 huge boxes ready to be priced up for my friend Sian’s Nearly New Sale. I just need to try on all my bras and my clothes are now all sorted. 🙂

We now also have in the wardrobe a pile of fleece blankets and the sleeping bags which will come with us and the small tent and our camping mats which won’t. Aside from our bed and the dresser tops the room is now either packed up ready for storage, coming along with us or getting rid of just before we go. 🙂 With the execption of the kitchen every room has now been gone through at least once.

This exercise uncovered treasures in the shape of our wedding video which Tarly doesn’t recall watching before, various photos and a couple of other boxes of stuff which need going through but may contain old pictures and home videos.

It all got very late so Ady headed off to get some bits for dinner and drop stuff off at the clothes ban

  1. cut off in midflow! Did Ady have to be naked whilst dropping stuff off? Kinky recycling centre?

  2. I’ve been thinking about encouraging Tilda to do the ECDL at some point in the next few years – am glad you feel you’ve got something out of it, as she’s probably almost as difficult to please as you 😉
