Please give me some feedback on this menu 🙂
Starter: soup, I’m thinking the butternut and nut butter soup from the River Cottage programme the other day.
Main: Roasted vegetables with nutty stuffing balls. I’m planning red onions, garlic, carrots, parsnips, sweet potatoes, potatoes all roasted in red wine and olive oil with plenty of herbs and some nutty stuffing balls.
Dessert: Apple tart with home made custard.
I want it to be autumnal. I do the roasted vegetable dish usually with sausages but thought nutty stuffing balls would go well as a veggie substitute. Does it sound ok?
Sounds great! My only concerns are with the main dish, think I would also do some veggie sausages e.g. Linda McC – just one each as an option for a different texture. Also would do some kind of sauce/relish with it for similar reason, moisture kind of thing. Could be a simple herby tomato sauce made with tinned chopped toms and pesto, or a bought cranberry or similar sauce.
Sounds delicious though!

Thanks Ali 🙂 I was trying to avoid obvious meat substitute such as pretend sausage as at least one of the veggies really doesnt’ like meat flavour / texture rather than the ethics of animal eating. The roasted veg is fairly saucey with the red wine / stock but cranberry might go well to give some interest.

Sounds good then! That was definitely a ‘personal preference’ point about the sausages.
Now, what are you going to eat…?

Linda McC aren’t meaty at all, and a box of 6 are quite cheap. I’d like some boiled/steamed green veg with it too 🙂 Rest sounds very nice 🙂

I feel slightly dubious about the stuffing balls, not sure why. Maybe cos I don’t think i like stuffing without meat ! 😉 the LMc bangers aren’t esp meaty . H likes them and she doesn’t like meaty.
Or Delia. has a nice recipe for a roasted veg gratin that is very yummy

Here it is. You can use any veg you think will go well. Fed it to the old manors the other day and went down well

Feel I’d be cheating the dinner party etiquette a bit by buying in LMc sausages 😆
The delia thing from Daddybean actually sounds edible even to me and A assures me it sounds delicious and it ticks the dinner party effort box so will go with that – Thanks Chris 🙂

Delia thing does sound yummy but for future reference we’re not afraid of LMc sausages either 😉

Delia thing was super scrummy.

I made that soup at the weekend. V scrummy. Quite filling though – couldn’t have manger another two courses. Prob need more cup than bowl sized portions.

Ooh thanks for tip Joyce, will do tasters rather than hearty bowls 🙂
Am rather amused at all the vegetarians pushing sausages 😆

And I used the crunchy butter which was lovely.

Oh and yes I’m with Alison, some green veg as well. Had Purple Sprouting Broccoli at the weekend which was nice.

Yum to purple sprouting 🙂
You could make Glamorgan sausages if readymade are out. I love them.

You bloody lot! I give you and inch and you take a mile, or I give you a root veg and you shower me with chickpeas 😉
I’ll do the root thing, I’ll make soup, I’ll even stretch to brown rice but I will not be persuaded to go down the green bloody vegetable route – it’s a step too far!

Not even a small pile of peas? 😉
Or there are leeks in glamorgan sausages … and cheese! Cheese comes from animals!
