Strange that I was strong enough to even make a start…

Thanks to someone who will remain nameless so as not to blow his cover for giving me something to waste most of my morning on 🙂 Lots of reminiscing there too.

So here I am at 10.30am with two still in pjs children, one with an overdue nappy to be changed and a house that’s a midden thanks to my blatant neglect of them in pursuit of a high score 🙂

My Mum will be here any minute so I need to run round and tuck baby wipes behind the radiators to perfume the house with ‘eau de caring mother’, dress said children, wash up breakfast dishes (luckily Ady’s back or they would not have eaten either!)

And ponder on what my dream career would be if only I could get paid for my odd and mainly useless talents and knack for trivia – see we’re back to making a living from quiz shows again aren’t we!

Despite the neglect I have managed to show the kids some places on an inflatable globe and talk about that, made a resolution with D to look up South Georgia on the www for some facts about it (very small island at the bottom of the globe) cos I know nowt about it. D has been playing with his cusinere rods (sp, sp sp!!!) and getting his head round some addition and the pattern of counting in 20s, 30s,40s etc being repeated which means yes he can count higher than he thought, some play with his magic sand (water seems to be a source of constant fascination atm, I MUST did out one of the books I know is nestling on the ‘for when they’re older’ shelf about water properties and experiments and S is playing with the pretend food and trying to overdose on rescue remedy 🙂

Ooh and one last one triggered by Joyce, what are your phobias and do your children have any yet and do you know how they got them?

I am scared of dogs – although since I had the kids I have worked really hard on overcoming it so as not to pass it on to them. Apparantly when I was about 18 months old I was nipped by a yorkshire terrier although I don’t remember it and my Dad only told me about it recently despite me always being scared of them. I’m not super keen on things like worms and spiders although if I had to deal with them I could (even Princesses can be brave 🙂 ) . Ady is scared of heights and so far the kids don’t seem to have any big fears. Davies is quite good at having a bad dream but waking and talking it out and justifying to himself it is a dream and not real and about things which don’t exist. He is a bit preoccupied with ghosts and as I am not able to convincingly tell him that I don’t believe they exist we have sort of left that one alone.

  1. My children, especially C, have a phobia of dogs. M’s is more of an exaggerated caution, but C’s is definitely a phobia, and I don’t know where she got it from – she’s never had a bad experience and Jonathan and I both like dogs. But she will refuse to go for a walk or go to the park in case there might be a dog there.

  2. South Georgia is the northernmost limit of seasonal Antarctic sea ice and there are loads of penguins there.

  3. Needles. Goes back to a mystery illness in my teens that required lots of blood tests, and an incredibly incompetent nurse who inserted the needle then looked for the vein. Got a bruise that covered about a third of my arm, and a fear of needles that is quite extreme.

Not too fussed about artificial heights either – I can climb trees or mountains, but I don’t like tall buildings or fairground rides.

And about the children’s state at 10.30 – me too!

  4. And wasn’t it the place first invaded by the Argentinians when they went into the Falklands?

  5. Vomiting ….. and Tamsin doesn’t show that fear at all (but I didn’t till I was about 4 or 5..)

  6. Spiders! I have had treatment for this and I can now deal with them but couldn’t touch one!I have a fear of enclosed spaces and trains but not really phobias.
Tony has a real problem with polystirine( how the F**k do you spell that!).
    Kids? Me.

  7. Oh I also have a thing about the texture of terracotta and I hate chalk and I cannot bear to have a chipped nail (which may or may not be part of my princess complex!).

  8. scared of dogs [will cross road, hide behind chris etc. Am trying not to show it where poss, and elinor so far ok. sort of spiders, but not too dreadful, unless I watch arachnophobia, and then out in spades!! Also heights, and gradually been conquering that one, but still not brill, so choose things with care!
Sort of, feet! particularly if they have long nails – wierd!
Sputum – this chap when I was a houseman kept begging in a whisper to be allowed to die. consultant not so good of hearing, so asked me to get closer to hear – although I’d passed on what chap was saying. At that point, chap coughed, big gobbet of sputum landed on my cheek, and I was promptly sick in sink luckilly next to bed [an old victoria ward] Charming!

  9. I don’t have any phobias if that means never going near anything you don’t like but I don’t like big dogs – or small yappy ones come to think of it. Especially Alsation dogs – I have bitten three times by this particular breed of dog.
