From Savage Garden who we listened to in the car on the way to Ali’s. We also listened to a bit of James Blunt, some Huey Lewis, a bit of Joshua Kadison, some ABC and a touch of Rod Stewart. The children were impressed and less than impressed in varying amounts!
Tarly did indeed have a dreadful night’s sleep ending up in bed with me around 3am while Ady snuck off to her bed and she’s veered between almost OK and utterly not well at all today. We cancelled Liam and Lily coming over (right decision) and after checking with Ali that she was prepared to face contamination we headed over there anyway (also right decision – I hope!) where she did pull off some playing, some jellytots eating and some general interacting alongside some sitting on my lap, some wailing and demanding and some dozing. She’s now on the sofa, under a blanket about to be calpol’d, pj’d and bedded.
Davies and Freya did some very impressive big drawings of Wallace and Gromit inspired by Freya’s earlier version of Gromit. Davies also did a Shaun the sheep, worthy of note if for no other reason that it’s five legs – perfectly acceptable and intentional according to Davies as ‘I am five’ and of course a joy if only breedable by farmers due to the 120% sales potential for leg of lamb! They are now gracing the wall going up the stairs. Davies also spent ages playing with a magnet, did some very cute attentive big brother stuff for Tarly, made us melt and laugh by coming into the kitchen to say ‘I wish someone would come and help me eat all these crisps – they are so salty my lips are getting sore!’, enjoyed playing with a marble run and a sort of pinball marble rally type game, disappeared upstairs with Freya for some sort of game and spent a while playing with Freya’s Leapster (v. impressed with that, will have to peek at ebay!). He also pulled off a fine line in attention seeking annoyance when he suddenly realised that in curling up on my lap and falling asleep Scarlett had left the vacancy of irritating offspring open for him to take the baton and run with it! 😉
Scarlett got her 3rd time lucky birthday gift of two fab books from Ali – a colour your own The Very Hungry Caterpillar which is ace and Long Live Princess Smartypants which also looks good.
I did manage, as always, a really good chat with Ali too. Thanks for that mate 🙂 x We covered life in general, money, work, HE, autonomy, parenting, rants and tantrums (of the adult variety) and probably loads more. The sun shone and it has been one of those days it’s good to be alive, good to be a parent, good to be a Home Educator and excellent to have friends to make you tea with vile milk, pesto pasta and lend an ear to bend!
Right off to get poorly girl to bed but I might be back later, I have some ponderings I might snatch out of my head and commit to blog post a bit later.
Have hardly ever met anyone else whose even heard of Joshua Kadison! What were you listening to? Will be back to read rest of post later, but that kind of leapt out at me on sage 😉
Jessie – I love that song 🙂
I had cats called Moses and Jesse 🙂
It was a good chat wasn’t it? I loved the bit where Davies and Freya were both drawing! Quietly! *cherishes memory*
Hope Tarly feels better soon.
Can’t afford train for what we talked about this time round. Ah well, see you after…
hope she’s feeling better soon!
