I think I need to get out and about more ;)

Yesterday we went to Legoland. It seems to have become a twice yearly trip for us and each time I toy with the idea of a season ticket but I think we’re going to aim for Chessington in the autumn this year instead. I think the last couple of years we’ve gone late March / early April so we were earlier in the year than usual, infact Legoland only reopened for the season on Saturday so I’d been rather frantically trying to book educational rate tickets for yesterday as there was no way we could afford full price.

We met up with an internet friend visiting from Ireland and Alison and Ali were also there. We struck what seemed to be the perfect balance of socialising and Legolanding with me getting to chat to adults a little bit and even go on a few rides en masse but without depriving Davies and Scarlett of any precious coaster time. Places like theme parks and museums always sound like great venues to meet up with people but actually they are nigh on impossible to do successfully in groups but I think we pulled it off yesterday, meeting to see Johnny Thunder, for hot chocolates mid afternoon and then leaving the park doing the last few rides as a group.

It was easily the emptiest I’ve known Legoland which was ace for us as we got to keep going round rides as many times as we liked (in most cases that was five!). The weather was very cold but at least not raining, not that it mattered as we spent the bulk of the day walking round in waterproofs. The big excitement was that Scarlett is finally tall enough to go on everything – which meant the Jungle Coaster ride which she had previously been too short for was now hers for the taking! Which also meant Ady who is openly terrified of rollercoasters and heights and thrills of all sorts had no excuse so was also dragged along for all four goes on that! 😆 They have put roofs on the previously open topped jeep style cars though which slightly dampens the fear factor. Other excitement included the new Viking ride (a sort of longboat style waltzer), getting caught on the river boat splash ride by our boat going off course and getting stuck in the current with three boats overtaking us before we got back on course. Loads of pictures here although they are mostly of wet children 😆

The journey there had been dire with us arriving nearly an hour late so my aim to get home and to the library for 7pm was always very ambitious. We left at about 515pm but thanks to miraculously light traffic we arrived home at 655pm which left me time to change out of my soggy jeans and head back out again to the library just a few minutes late while the group was still doing catch up chatter and pouring drinks. It was a good book group, I’d chosen the book – A History of Love which I read last year and just adored. It really split the group with some of them loving it too and seeing the beauty in the writing that I’d seen and a couple of them really hating it. One (rather pompous) man said it was the worst book he’d ever read! 😆 It’s always far more interesting when opinions are divided!

I got home and had a bath which finally warmed me up, drank a glass of wine, ate dinner, commented to Ady that it was the least knackered I’d ever felt after a trip to Legoland and then promptly fell asleep on the sofa! 😆 Hence no blog last night!
