So we had all the autonomous learnin’ and stuff going on here today which was nice. 🙂 After my last post I went and did some muffinicity and baked bread and rolls for lunch. The rolls were made with brown flour which I have not used before and it’s a very different animal to the white. I added pumpkin seeds to the brown rolls and they were really nice.
My Mum arrived at lunchtime complete with supplies to add to the rolls of posh pate, posh crisps and cream cakes 🙂 We ate lunch with Earl Grey tea and for a short time I regained Princess Status 😉
She also brought a massive bag crammed with materials for Davies to use for his puppet making and it imediately got used fro dressing up. I probably should have taken photos really but we had mermaids using the shimmery irridescent material, Little Red Riding Hood using the red velvet and my basket, Pirates/ Highwaymen using the green velvet, the Captain Hook boots and sword from the dressing up box and Uniqua from the Backyardigans using some pink netting! Scarlett was also the grateful recipient of a gorgeous Moonsoon jumper with princesses and swans appliqued onto it 🙂 Materialistic, moi?! 😉
Mum and I chatted while the children frankly ran amok – they have not done well being ill this week and then spending two days stuck indoors but I can explain and justify their ‘wildness’ so I shall not dwell on it. Ady arrived home around 3pm but had work to do on his laptop so he was with us without really being with us. Then an advert for Floam came on Nick jr. Now Floam is something Davies and I have been coveting ever since we first saw the advert, Davies had asked for some for Christmas but I’d explained we couldn’t afford it and the deal was that if we ever saw any to buy in a shop then we’d buy some. Mum was equally taken with the advert and when Davies explained how much he wanted it and had done for ages she whipped her credit card out and told me to phone and order some! So I did 🙂
Scarlett had by then utterly had enough, both children had been sent to their rooms earlier in the afternoon and she’d never really recovered from it so she was begging to go to bed and in the end we relented. Mum left shortly after Tarly went to sleep and it was very probably the nicest time I’ve spent with her in a long while – and I am truly not just saying that cos of all the cash she lavished on us! Davies took slightly longer to go to sleep and when I got downstairs from getting sitting with him Ady was asleep on the sofa so a wild and crazy Friday night has not really been had by one and all here, but I am on my third glass of wine, thanks to inspiration from Ali I have a possible career plan in place (although it will involve tapping my Dad up for cash for training to get a qualification) and tomorrow I managed to get a cancellation hair cut appointment for first thing in the morning so I will be feeling all lovely and groomed aswell as getting an hour of pampering away from the voices of small children and my not too frequent but enjoyable on an ad hoc basis fix of life for the single gal from my early 20s still living at home hairdresser.
erm, thanks for that Floam link 😕 My girls just heard the ad start when I clicked on it and seem rather taken with the idea – where did you get it from – that link?
Aaaah – i really liked your house post, i wanted to come back and read it again. It made me all nostalgic 🙁
Where’d you put it?
Oops sorry Sar 🙂 just stuck ‘floam’ into google and that was the first one I clicked on.
Merry, I’ve emailed you, let me know if you don’t get it – I’ve got about 4 email addresses for you 😉
so can you get it anywhere then? surprised we didn’t see it at the toy fair last week, I’ve never heard of it!
Pearl also hankers after some Floam.
BTW, have you ever read the rather brilliant book called ‘GNYS AT WRK’ (read it like it looks, with a US accent!) by Glenda Bissex? It is a really re-assuring account of one little boy’s journey to literacy. I love that early writing that kids do. Leo did loads and loads and then was suddenly reading fluently with very little effort. Love that MSDA.
Off to look at Floam and finances…
Hah, you got me googling too, how about this, for all home edded kids hankering after floam it’s a must, surely?
Make your own floam
I’ve not seen it in the shops anywhere and I was sort of looking. Infact that was the basis I told D he could have some on – when we saw it to buy in a shop I’d get some.
I’ll do a review and pics when it arrives 🙂
Book sounds good Allie, I’ll see if can get it from the library.
My boys have been wanting Floam since the ads started appearing just before Christmas, its getting rather wearing now! There are recipes kicking about for it and it appears to be flubber with plastic beads it if anyone would rather not buy it. I am still putting them off either buying or making, I’m so not keen on seeing just what they are going to decorate in it, I have visions of my new kitchen with green lumpy handles and it scares me!
lol @ Sally, yes I’m wondering what exactly is going to get floamed too!
