I intended a good long lie in this moring but was woken by Scarlett shouting at Davies and Davies coming uptairs crying about it. He was justifiably upset as she was accusing him of something he hadn’t done but crying seemed rather extreme I thought. I decided to get up and deal with it rather than attempting to sleep and gettng fed up with the noise and was proud of myself for my measured and mature response which seemed to set the tone of the day really. We were all tired and rather intolerant but with careful calmness we managed to not fall out with each other at all for the rest of the day. Hopefully last weeks blip is over with.

It was pouring with rain so once everyone was dressed and breakfasted we decided to have a quiet day at home catching up with ourselves. I wrote myself a slightly ambitious job list but have actually ploughed through it today. It included chasing up all those promised I made to people to set up visiting over the weekend with emails detailing when we are free, getting our English Heritage membership forms sent off, emailing the local council to ask if we can borrow litter picker uppers (and hopefully gloves and rubbish bags too) for the kids litter collection alleyway walk for their WAA which I’d quite like to get done this half term before the summer holidays start, an online food shop for the month and finding out if Helmsley is free for Christmas camp. It also included laundry and thanks to the rain clearing up and the sun coming out I achieved that too :). I also got an unexpected but very nice facebook message from someone localish asking to arrange to meet up which I’ve responded to -loving all this socialisation ;).

Davies watched Meet the Robinsons several times and showed me two music videos which are on the dvd extras and also put on a bit of Indiana Jones he’d been telling me about and wanted me to see which he thinks is really funny. It’s interesting how his sense of humour is developing and he’s getting sarcasm, double meanings and visual or more sophisticated gags now. He asked me some questions about colour blindness that I couldn’t answer so we looked up some more information about that and are all now more informed about colour blindness than we were this time yesterday.

Scarlett asked me several unrelated questions that we had to look up information on or talk about further. One was about adoption (which was Meet the Robinsons inspired) so we chatted about that and the reasons a child might be adopted. They are both quite interested in the notion of children being the legal responsibility of an adult at the moment and had been asking at both the opticians and dentists why I had to sign forms on their behalf which has lead to interesting conversations about accountability, who is the boss of who and more. Yesterday at the motorway services they wanted to know why under 18s couldn’t gamble when we walked past some fruit machines which is all sort of related stuff.

Scarlett also, seemingly apropos of nothing but clearly inspired by something wanted to know about tattoo removal so we looked online for details of different options and found a video clip of someone having a tattoo done which we all watched. We talked about the reasons someone would want a tattoo removed and some more extreme methods such as limb removal 😆

Both kids did some drawing; Davies paused the dvd player on a scene with a spaceship and made a 3d model of it with some cardboard which he coloured in and fixed together with sellotape. Scarlett spent some time painting my toenails again and had intentions of doing a jigsaw with me but neither of us managed to be free at the same time so it ended up being put away again.

I made pancakes for lunch which went down very well and a sort of mini roast chicken dinner for them later as it’s been *weeks* since we’ve had a roast dinner due to being busy every weekend so missing our usual Sunday roasts.

Ady came home and I went over to my parents to return the battery charger and leads. Davies was in the garden with Ady as they’ve done a radish trial for Which? Gardening which involved planting 2 varieties then comparing them. There is a clear winner so they were pulling them, washing them off and photographing and measuring them to fill in the paperwork. Scarlett came to my parents with me and on the way home sat in the front and helped me change gear.

We had another couple of chapters of George before the kids bedtime and I cooked tacos and fahitas for our dinner. Davies came downstairs and was in the kitchen with me saying ‘this is just like Cooking Mama’ as I chopped the onion up 😆
