And double pneumonia in a single room…

Never again will I be caught out on that one 😉

So the lost weekend… not really lost as here I am at the end of it blogging but as it is so rare to not blog twice daily let alone once it felt a bit lost blogwise 🙂

Yesterday was my Dad’s birthday. He was 67, which actually is starting to head towards getting on a bit territory which always makes me feel really quite wobbly. But that conversation topic is for a different time and place so let’s focus on the here and now…

Happy Birthday Dad

We had a lovely day actually. Mum and Dad arrived at 10am and we had present opening (coffee machine, some coffee to go in it and the latest UB40 cd – his request) and cards before heading off to a nearby Wildfowl and Wetlands Trust place which is combined with woodland and a car museum. Weather was perfect for it really, a bit overcast but warm and the ideal location as it was pretty quiet there and safe for the children to run around with their bags of bird food terrorising the ducks 😉 Got some nice pics which you will find here if you want to take a peep. Picnic lunch, ride on the mini train and walk through woodlands all very enjoyable. Ady and I managed to hold hands and chatter most of the time too as Mum and Davies were walking together and Dad was with Tarly so that was very pleasant :-). Just off of the woodland is a field which is in a sort of meadow stylee with loads of wild flowers growing to child height and stacks and stacks of mini beasts and bugs. We spent about half an hour there catching ladybirds and grasshoppers, looking at the thistles and flowers, Dad showed Davies how to suck clover petals to get the honey flavour pollen out (just like he showed me when I was little) and it was truly blissful. Dad reminised about when he was a boy and fields like that stretched for miles as far as he could see, he told Davies the story (I remember hearing at a similar age) about once finding a patch of clover with four, five, six and even seven leafed clovers and thinking his good luck would never end 🙂 A lovely birthday for him 🙂

Then we came home for birthday cake and candles and Frazer arrived having finished work, the kids fell asleep fairly quickly and we had a lovely indian takeaway and all got merrily drunk 🙂

Today we called over to Mum and Dad’s to show him how to work the coffee machine and then went over to Chris and Julie’s for the afternoon. Kids did their usual running around playing, getting messy and naked thing while grown ups chatted and drank tea – and man does Chris drink tea – I think I drink more there on the normal Sunday afternoon than in the rest of my week put together 🙂 So sloshing as we went we came home via McDs for kids weekend ‘treat’ and will be consuming roast lamb and the last alcohol until Friday night later on this evening.

  1. I’ve missed the alcohol bit – have you signed a weekday pledge or something? Sounds scary. Looks like a good weekend, though.

  2. Thats so spooky, we drove past Bentley on our way up to Tunbridge yesterday and contemplated going there on our way back but Ashdown forest just won out on time grounds. We’ve never been – it looks lovely from your pics so will go another time!
