Number four

Second black one has hatched, he (sexing appears to be something we can’t do properly for ages so I think they’ll all be ‘he’ for now) took a really long time to come out and looks slightly smaller and weaker than the rest but all externally correct. The two yellow ones are fluffing out nicely and looking very very cute.

I’ve been looking online trying to get ideas of a good place to keep them for now, a hamster cage seems to be a good idea but a quick trip to the pet shop this morning (Candle had no cat food and was showing rather more interest in the chicks than I was happy with so we thought we’d better get her some food pretty quick!) suggests they are not within our budget for a couple of weeks disposable use. Will bung out a WANTED on freecycle for now. A shallowish box / drawer would be ideal if we didn’t have Candle to consider, the idea of being reliant on children closing doors to keep her out of the same room as them is a little too risky I think.
