First I was afraid, I was petrified
kept thinking I could never live my whole week being outside
I spent so many days blogging all my angst and fears
spent all my wine soaked evenings fighting back the tears
Then Alison brought the tent, I put it up
I realised I could still drink Pimms from an enamel camping cup
I got a potty from freecycle and a camping stove from Chris
so I could cook my meat outside and enjoy an under canvas piss
And so I camped
lived in a tent
when people talked about the great outdoors I realised what they meant
I know noone thought I’d manage
you expected me to cry
thought I’d have left by Tuesday, running home to get warm and dry
But no not I,
hey I survived!
As long as I had Ady there I knew I’d stay alive
I had all my friends close by
needle felting and tie dye
and I survived, yes I survived.
It took all the strength I had not to let my standards fall
to wear my waterproof mascara in the swimming pool
I spent oh so many nights shouting at the kids to go to sleep
knowing the whole field could clearly hear me still didn’t make me weak
But you saw me, I was still Nic
I brought all my nail varnish so I could repair any accidental chips
I was still me, just a little dirtier and damper
but just because you sleep in a tent it doesn’t mean you are a camper.
And so I camped
lived in a tent
when people talked about the great outdoors I realised what they meant
I know noone thought I’d manage
you expected me to cry
thought I’d have left by Tuesday, running home to get warm and dry
But no not I,
hey I survived!
As long as I had Ady there I knew I’d stay alive
I had all my friends close by
needle felting and tie dye
and I survived, yes I survived.
‘I was still me, just a little dirtier and damper’
Way TMI…….
