  1. Hadn’t realised how close we were to those first two places at Okehampton 🙂 Did you drive past and have a look?

  2. Aww thanks 🙂 So has it been really hard to book places in the order you’ve wanted them?

Might try and see if we can arrange a trip to Nth Wales when you’re nearby.

  3. Lol, neither had we Alison! Wish we’d popped along for a peek now. TBH until I plotted them like this today I’d not really registered much about locations other than general grid area we’d split the country into.

Kirsty, yes! All but impossible to fit into a logical order but I’m pretty happy with the way it looks, with not too much double backing on ourselves. Would be great to see you in NW 🙂

  4. 🙂

I was expecting much more dots tbh – doesn’t look that many!! Guess that will be the fact that there are some that are more than a weeks worth?

  6. 14 so far for March, April, May, June & July. We were struggling to find hosts in Wales so ended up moving further north as there are loads in Scotland (emailed today so hoping for some yesses to start coming thru’ in next couple of days). That should give us August, September, October & November in Scotland before starting back south again during December. We’re asking all Scottish hosts for 2 weeks so only need to find 8 or 9.

Cooks was the best mid way break between N Wales & Scotland and they sound like a good match – 2 families living very similar lifestyle to what we want, Home Edding 4 children. We had said July, August or September to them and July suits them best so that decided it and I stopped trying to find any more in N wales.

D wants to spend his birthday at Channonry Point so we’re planning a week off then.

We were initially thinking we’d have about 30 hosts, so far we’ve got 14 booked and room for another 10 I guess if all Scottish ones say yes, so prob 20-25 this side of Christmas. We’ll leave 2012 bookings until we have a better idea of what we might want to do. If we’re ending the year and coming home we’ll aim for places in the east side of the country for Jan, Feb and March and start booking them in December.

  8. I would have thought wales would have had a lot of possibilities. Nice that Scotland has lots of places though, hope you get some positive replies soon 🙂

  9. We had 19 in Wales (mostly NW) on our shortlist but only about 5 emailed back hence the rethink. We do have a couple of ’email nearer the time’ type offers which we will keep in reserve in case something falls through but I wanted to have most the time booked up with odd weeks left here and there to either slot in hosts if it fell into place or have time off if we wanted it. Of course we might also have places we like and want to stay longer at.

It’s definitely been a balance between wanting to have it as tied up as possible but needing to have flexibility and of course not being able to dictate dates to hosts but take what they can offer us.

  10. I’m saying 14, there is 12 on the map because a couple of the hosts are ‘sharing’ us so I only have postcodes for one location while we’re working at 2.

  11. Is your hope that most of these will put you up in the house or do you expect to do a lot of van living?

    Comment by Joyce — 30 January 2011 @ 11:03 pm

  12. It’s about a 50:50 split Joyce. Our first two weeks are at a commune where they are not allowed people living in vehicles and there is no room for kids in the communal dorm so we’ll be in tents. Some of the houses will have room for us all but there will be a fair bit of sleeping in the van

  13. That’s a shame about the lack of response from Wales – what was your hit rate like in Zone 1?

    Comment by Alison — 31 January 2011 @ 7:51 am

  14. Lol, here for the stat lovers:

Zone One – contacted 24 potential hosts, 6 booked with firm dates, 3 had agreed in princicple but wanted to confirm dates nearer the time (I’ve since contacted 2 of those and one is now booked, the other no longer hosts WWOOFers), 9 didn’t reply to email at all, 7 replied with reasons to refuse us.

Zone Two – contacted 19 potential hosts, 6 booked, the other 13 never replied.

Zone Three – I’ve contacted 14 hosts, will see how many respond.

  15. …And there’s colour coding on my zone spreadsheets 😉 Who says I’m not fun to be around!
