the fascinating witches who put the scintillating stitches…

etc. 😆

Davies and Scarlett are both recovered from the lurgy but I am still feeling fairly crap and although Ady claims to be ‘strong as an ox’ or some other such nonsense he looks pretty crap so I’m guessing he feels it too.

I worked this morning which probably did me some good really although I was flagging by midday and certainly couldn’t have lasted all day. First thing there were 3 of us in and we were waiting for Frankie (my favourite colleague) to arrive so when there was a knock at the staff door I went to answer it and shouted through the door ‘what’s the password?’ to which after a brief hesitation came ‘er…. bananas?!’ and I opened it to reveal the Children’s Librarian 😳 😆 She saw the funny side and was I think rather scared but the other staff thought it was hilarious. When I told Frankie she agreed that she would have come up with a far filthier password (which was what I was expecting!). At tea break time I swapped horror stories of drunken vomitting with Yvonne. She had a couple of impressive contenders but I think my two particular shaming tales put me out in front ;).

Ady was at home with the children on his first official flexi-working, everyone knows he’s off for the morning rather than semi-skiving and hoping to make up time. They tidied up the childrens rooms and the playroom and did an excellent job :). And I came home to lunch and a cup of tea waiting for me – very impressive :).

I was in a fairly slumped state by then and managed to read a book to Scarlett and help Davies play SHIFT for a while before crying off doing anything else other than sitting quietly. Davies was a bit disappointed and really wanted to ‘do something with you Mummy’ put as all his suggestions were sitting on the floor with puzzles or playing board games neither of which I could face we settled for cuddles. I felt bad really as it’s not often he specifically requests to do something with me but I hope that is because he doesn’t need to ask as I do it anyway rather than I have rebuffed a rare request :(.

They watched some of DK Dvd I’d brought home about Pre-historic times. It is one of a series that I borrowed most of including titles such as Monsters, Skeletons – might be eyewitness actually. They’re very good.

Then it was time for Badgers so we drove there stopping for petrol on the way. I’d misjudged how long that would take so we arrived early and sat in the carpark for 10 minutes or so. I’d borrowed a Rolf Harris cd from work and we were listening to that – Davies adores the court of king caractacus (and amazingly remembers it from Sparkies), Scarlett likes Two Little Boys which makes me all misty eyed every time I hear it and they both liked Tie Me Kangaroo down Sport.

I’d taken supplies in the way of tissues, a choice of books, a bag of chocolate eclairs (the sweets not the cream cakes) and Scarlett’s DS with BBA in it to keep me going but as the sun had come out and the tide was out I decided to have a gentle walk along the beach after all. I caught up on various phone calls while I was walking – tomorrow I really must do the same with various emails that I am long overdue on sending to people including one from Christmas 😳

I walked for about half an hour and then headed back to the car to read my book and eat some sweets. I was sitting with my feet stretched across both front seats, book in hand with about 5 sweet wrappers littering the seats when someone stuck their head in the window to say hello! 😳 It was the Badger leader from the Lancing group that Davies used to go to before they cancelled it and he moved to the Worthing one. She showed me some pictures of her grandson who is now 2 (her daughter was pregnant and just about had the baby before the group stopped and we moved to Worthing). She hung around until I’d collected Davies and Scarlett too and came to chat to them. Davies was really pleased to see her again and she was happy to see Scarlett is now a Badger and remembered how keen she’d been to join as a 3 year old when she used to come along to see Davies at Lancing :).

They made kites today and came out at the end to run around on the grass with them. Next week is Bring A Pet week and the children want to take Spatchcock and XLR8 in, then the following week is the last before summer. They handed out Badger of the Month cup tonight and it was really funny. Julie (the leader) really built it up with a spiel about how it had been really hard choosing this month, everyone had done so well, they had chatted about it for ages and it was a really tough decision to which Scarlett piped up with a really helpful tone ‘you could give it to me!’ which made everyone laugh 😆 I’m sure she genuinely did think she was helping them solve a problem! She didn’t get it!

Home for stories and then bed for them, mutual groaning at our poorliness for Ady and I and copious amounts of nose blowing, coughing and general bleughiness.
