So, the last two days then:
Thursday – after another truly dreadful night (Tarly finally fell asleep at about 2am, at about 3am Davies crept into bed with me where we lay awake talking about the wind and rain lashing against the windows) we utterly failed to be up and about early enough to get out of the house and meet Julie at our appointed time. We were about an hour late but as it was at soft play anyway it didn’t matter too much!
Scarlett took about an hour to re-learn how to climb up a certain tricky bit which she had definitely managed to do last time we were there and as all three of us were tired there was probably slightly more cuddling and whinging than usual but they certainly did their exercising and socialising in the couple of hours we were there 🙂 I got chatting to a couple of women there about Home Education – I don’t really do chatting to strangers much anyway and would usually just about give away enough to not have the question asked but I’m really glad we had the discussion as they had some really intelligent and interesting comments and questions – for once far more to do with the pyschology or HE and how children actually learn and have passion for learning rather than the crappy ‘how will they socialise’ tripe usually trotted out. The one with school aged children summarised that actually she wouldn’t dream of doing it as she had a 7 year old and a 2 year old and is fantasising about the day they are both being dropped off at school and she gets time to herself. Can’t argue with that really, although if the best argument for school is the free day care then it’s not a good enough one for me personally! She did say that when she was my age (she looked about late 40s) she would probably have loved to do something similar though, just to challenge convention, exercise her passionate beliefs and stick two fingers up at the world. Not at all sure that’s much of a factor for me but perhaps it is an added bonus! 😉
We left there and called round to see my Dad for a couple of hours where the children disappeared off somewhere to play and I had relative peace for the first time in days – bliss!
Came home and Ady was not too far behind me – very touching homecoming scenes all round 😉
Not at all sure who slept where last night – I know I ended up in our bed with Davies and I think Tarly was in Davies’ bed and Ady was in Tarly’s but although I was aware of crying and people wandering around in the night I refused to get up and deal with any of it given Ady had had two full nights uninterupted sleep in a hotel!
Today we’ve been at home – we went out to Boots and stocked up on nit removal systems and then I went to Tescos to do a food shop while Dad came over and looked after the children. I don’t think we’ve done a great deal mind you – the children are at the end of a long and tiring week so they have not been great company really. This weekend we have nothing much planned – I think we’re heading over to my parents tomorrow for a while but I mostly intend catching up on some sleep and maybe trying to put the children’s bedrooms back in some sort of order which I have not really done properly since last weekend. And that’s me all caught up!
